Andy Behlen: ”Finnish Artist to Exhibit Work in Schulenburg This Week”

”Sengelmann Hall in Schulenburg is hosting an art show featuring the work of Finnish artist Inka-Maaria Jurvanen on Wednesday, March 15.

Jurvanen is winning international acclaim with her pencil-on-plywood drawings. Here is how the Finnish art journal “Taide” recently described her work:
“Inka-Maaria Jurvanen’s art draws from the tradition of figurative surrealism, but the elements she uses don’t really fall into its clichés. Jurvanen appears to be succeeding in what many in the field of drawing are trying to do – to create a feeling that something essential is being said about the condition of the modern human. Aimlessly wondering human-trunks are trying to make sense of their surroundings where objects by default acquire meanings.”

The art show is being held in conjunction with Sengelmann Hall’s regular Wednesday music night featuring the Pettit Brothers. Several pieces of Jurvanen’s art will be available for purchase.

Jurvanen will leave for Europe following the show, where she has two art exhibits in Finland and one in Spain scheduled for the coming months.”
